Adding Links to Wiki

From PASCAL Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Internal Links

An internal link is an inter-wiki link, or a link made to a new or exisiting page within a wiki.

To create a link to an existing page within the PASCAL wiki, the name of the page you would like to link to must be placed between two brackets.

For example, if I would like to link to the Help:Contents/Help page, the following text must be inserted:

[[help:Contant/ Help]]

Which will result in the following:

Help:Contents/ Help Contents

In some cases, you may want to link to a page but reference it using different text.

For example:

In order to access the Help:Contents page on this wiki, please click [[Help:Contents | here]].

Which appears as:

In order to access the Help page on this wiki, please click here.

Careful: If you have just created an internal wiki link and, upon saving the page it shows up in red, that means that the page you are linking to does not exist. If you intend to create this page follow the link to the new page and begin adding text. If you think you should have been pointing to an existing page, double check the page name (text to the left of the vertical separator) for correctness. It should be noted that the Wiki page names are text-sensitive.

External Links

Links to pages outside of the wiki can be created in several different ways:

  • Single brackets and no separator are used to create a link to a page outside the wiki. For example, a link to the NIH homepage can be created usiing the text:
[http://www.pascalsc.org/ PASCAL Homepage]

Appears as: PASCAL Homepage

  • You can also simply write the text:
http://www.pascalsc.org/

Appears as: http://www.pascalsc.org/
