More information on PASCAL's Funding Crisis

New Resource for Collegiate DISCUS Print E-mail
It is my pleasure to announce a new resource for Collegiate DISCUS.

Working in conjunction with the State Library, PASCAL has negotiated an agreement with Thomson-Gale for the purchase of the archives for the Literature Resource Center for the academic community in South Carolina.
The Archive covers core material in LRC through 2005. Current years in LRC will be recieved through a Collegiate DISCUS access subscription. SC Libraries will receive access to the following resources:

Contemporary Authors
Contemporary Authors New Revision Series
Contemporary Literary Criticism
Dictionary of Literary Biography
Twaynes' Author Series
Scribners Writers

For more information on the LRC, you can consult the following link on the Thomson-Gale website:

http://www.gale.com/servlet/ItemDetailServlet?region=9&imprint=000&titleCode=GAL30&type=4&id=112988

(Please note that Collegiate DISCUS does not include access to the MLA bibliography through LRC, as we have licensed this database through EBSCO.)

We will send out information within the next few days about implementing LRC at each of your institutions. Academic libraries already subscribing to Gale literature products will be receiving a prorated credit or refund for the unused portion of your subscriptions.

The combination of the statewide interest in the product, the State Library's ongoing business relationship with Thomson-Gale and PASCAL's interest in the archival package allowed us to negotiate a finanically advantageous deal for this important core resource.

Thanks.
