SEASON'S GREETINGS!

Several major announcements were made at our most recent general membership meeting, held December 10. The headliners:

PASCAL makes its Initial Statewide Electronic Resource Procurement

Universal Borrowing is Coming SC Academic Libraries

PASCAL makes its Initial Statewide Electronic Resource Procurement

The cornerstone resources for what will be branded Collegiate DISCUS will include these major products from EBSCO - Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, MLA, and CINAHL. EBSCO resources were ranked first in all four content-area evaluations (Business, Literature, Science, and Nursing) by our Consortial Purchasing Committee teams. It is noteworthy, however, that ASP provides substantial coverage in many additional academic disciplines. A complete listing of databases made available through this agreement will be posted shortly.

We will also be licensing additional electronic resources in the spring. These selections will also be based on vendor responses to the CPC letter requesting proposals.

Universal Borrowing is Coming SC Academic Libraries

By this time next year, SC students and faculty will be able to access the well-over 11 million volumes held in SC academic libraries by making a simple web-request. Books will arrive at the user\'s home library within 3 days or less!

PASCAL has selected Innovative Interfaces InnReach system to provide circulation-based universal borrowing for all PASCAL members. In order to ensure universal access, the PASCAL Board has approved funding both the system and delivery costs through state lottery funds. We are exploring a statewide initiative to provide document delivery via Ariel as well.

This statewide system has grown out of the cooperative efforts of sixteen PASCAL libraries at eight institutions to replace local integrated library systems. Innovative Interfaces will be also implementing its Millennium integrated library system in the libraries of the USC system, Clemson, the College of Charleston, South Carolina State University, Francis Marion University, The Citadel, Florence Darlington Technical College and Aiken Technical College.
