More information on PASCAL's Funding Crisis

PASCAL Branding Print E-mail

PASCAL E. R.

last updated: February 12, 2008

Branding -  Identifying Collegiate Discus databases funded by the General Assembly --  is of critical importance.  Branding involves  several considerations  - Identification of Collegiate DISCUS resources on  "Launch"  pages, and in catalog records, as well as branding within individual databases.

This page outlines branding needs and strategies given the structure of EBSCOhost.  We will be contacting all libraries to work through branding questions.

1. Launch Page branding:  All  libraries linking directly to Collegiate Discus databases should use one of the Collegiate Discus logos, along with a link to the Collegiate Discus website.

Logos:  PASCAL Logos

Collegiate DISCUS link:  PASCAL Electronic Resources home page

or the following text adjacent to the database in their A-Z lists or other web launch pages:

Collegiate DISCUS is coordinated by PASCAL , in cooperation with its members, the South Carolina State Library, and other partners. Collegiate DISCUS is funded by the South Carolina General Assembly through an appropriation to the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

Links  from within catalog records should contain  the  text above in a note.

2.  Internal Database Branding:  EBSCO offers several opportunities for customization of databases.  Collegiate Discus will make use of them.  Libraries may choose one or the other of these options for establishing branding within the EBSCO databases:

A. Preferred: (For libraries with no additional institutional subscriptions, this will be set up by the PASCAL office.)  We will can set this up for libraries subscribing to additional EBSCO databases, or libraries may do it themselves. We will set up a separate distinct EBSCO profile for Collegiate Discus products that will:

 1)  supply a Collegiate Discus logo and link to the Collegiate DISCUS homepage in the upper right corner:

  PASCAL Electronic Resouces
and

2) a footer incorporating an acknowledgement statement:

PASCAL E. R. is coordinated by PASCAL , in cooperation with its members, the South Carolina State Library, and other partners. Collegiate DISCUS is funded by the South Carolina General Assembly through an appropriation to the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

These links will appear in each Collegiate Discus database, as well as on the Select Databases page for the profile.

This approach will allow libraries to retain branding for their other EBSCO databases. Smart-linking will work with all products, regardless of the source of funding or profile used. However,  cross-database searching will be limited to the subset contained in each profile.  (Note - Cross database and cross-vendor searches can be supported through institutional federated search engines and will be set up for all Collegiate DISCUS, and DISCUS databases in the statewide implementation of the MetaFind federated search engine that was purchased with the InnReach software.)

B. Alternative: Libraries may choose to place the following generic funding acknowledgement statement and funding statement on all  of their EBSCO databases:

Some of this library's EBSCOhost databases are provided by Collegiate DISCUS.  A listing of these databases may be found here.
