We are making some changes to the website.
Our aims are to improve the site’s usability, as well as to better explain our programs and services. We plan to go live with the new site the week of May 7, but want your comments and suggestions, so are making a sneak preview available here: http://alpsc6.state.sc.us/ As proud of this site as we are, it represents an interim step towards our goal of a full state-of-the art web presence that begins to embody more current technology and better design. We’re working with the same website and document management system used by the State Library (Joomla), but are starting its development in the member’s area of the site, where we seek to provide *much* better access to and control over our committee and member work files. Right now, you’ll see this in the drop down menus under committee documents, but soon we’ll have a great search capability. To access the Members area, you can continue to use the same password you know and love. We’re also evolving towards a public site which promotes our more end-user oriented tools such as PASCAL Delivers and the South Carolina Digital Collections Guide. This trend will continue as we begin to focus on enhanced discovery and access tools in the electronic resources area over the next year. So, this isn’t our final look, but hopefully, it’s a better-looking and (more importantly) easier to use step in the process. For those who might have missed it, or have forgotten, the new logo was launched at the December general meeting. Here’s some information about it: http://pascalsc.org/public/logo/mainlogo.htm The PASCAL staff, especially Banda Bakhit, have worked very hard in wrangling a very complex and old-fashioned website into this new look and setting the stage for even more substantial improvements. I’m very proud of them. Thanks! Rick Moul PASCAL Executive Director |
